Parental Mistake

Parental Mistake

I made a grave parental mistake tonight. I gave the boy an irrefutable get out of crib free card. As I blanketed him into bed, I told him that if he needed me, all he has to do is yell my name and I will be there. What the fuck was I thinking?

I am well acquainted with the things that go bump in the night and how those bumps have an impact on a small childs unrelenting imagination while lying alone in a dark room. So I want to do everything I can to help my kids overcome imaginary fears.

Seriously, what was I thinking? So guess what I heard thirty minutes later? Just as I started watching Very Bad Things, one of the greatest movies of all time, I heard a low voice mumbling something from behind me. Coming through the wall, and reverberating down the hall, was a boy, calling my name.

'Jay, Jay,' it called, 'I need you. Jay...Jay.'

Jeebus! What did I do? So far he goes to bed just fine. Just fine. Until tonight.

"Hey buddy, what's up?"

Hah. 'What's up dock!'

"No, really, why are you up dude?"

He stands up. Blanket wrapped around his neck. Smirking. "I'm not tired Poppa. It's morning outside. It's morning now...."

What are you, a Rookie? No, but that was rookie move.

Total Rook. Floundered on that one. I opened a pandoras box of potential toddler bedtime battles.

Awesome pics, as always.

The move, however... yeah, I'm wondering how many nights you have allowed this to go on?? It's like a kiddie addiction... you MUST cut him off quick. Cold turkey. LOL
